The Vivisect Playset Five

Starting on the 5th of December at Gallery 1988 San Francisco is 'Vivisect Playset Five', the 5th in a series of annual art shows curated by Luke Cheuh; artists featured include Angry Woebots, Amy Sol, Alex Pardee, Joe Ledbetter plus dozens more. Earlier today POW announced details of the prints and originals to be released at their upcoming 'Open Day' event taking place on the 6th and 7th of December (details posted here). A new print by Banksy entitled 'Very Little Helps' as well as two editions by Antony Micallef entitled 'Bethlehem' and 'Lovemaker' (both editions of 150) are to be released via a £1-a-ticket lottery system, the proceeds of which are to be donated to Sightsavers International.

Also to be released on the day are new prints from Parra, Xenz, Vhils and Ian Stevenson (aka I Like Drawing), as well as a selection of original paintings by Greg Haberny and others from the POW roster. The winner of the recent print vote on Audrey Kawasaki's blog (details previously posted here) has been announced as being 'Two Sisters', set to be released in an open edition for one hour on December 6th starting at 12pm Pacific Time.

Nobuyoshi Araki (Japanese, b. 1940) is arguably one of Japan’s greatest living photographers. and certainly its most controversial. A prolific artist, influenced by Shunga, the erotic art of the Japanese Edo period, as well as the sexually charged, glossy, contemporary culture, Araki’s work confronts taboo subjects such as sex, nudity, violence and death. Exhibited widely in Japan and internationally. His inexhaustible creative energy is attested to by the more than 300 books he has published in the last four decades. (source)
